Home Espresso Machine BEST SELLERS
Super Automatic Espresso Machine:
It comes with a grinder built in and a water tank on the side; it has an automatic milk steamer, and with one button you automatically grind the coffee beans, brew, and dispense the waste into the bin, all with an automatic shut off. You only have to clean it from time to time.
The main advantage of a super automatic espresso machine is that your shot of espresso will be ready in only 2 minutes, with the absolute minimal amount of work necessary. On the downside, it will not taste as good as the one made with a semi automatic espresso machine.
An entry level super automatic espresso machine costs around $500. As you go up in price, machines start featuring more programmable options, i.e. it will automatically brew and have your espresso ready at the exact time you wake up in the morning, or, it will instantly froth the milk, and they will let you either grind the beans or use pre-ground espresso coffee. More pricey machines also display nicer metal frames.
An important point is that even though more features become available with more expensive super automatic machines, the quality of the espresso shot will remain about the same.
Semi Automatic Espresso Machine:
A Separate, stand alone grinder (you must purchase it separately) grinds the beans, then you place the ground coffee into the machine, it brews it, and you have to shut it off. It does involve a bit more work than the super automatic, but it makes a much better tasting espresso shot.
The semi automatic espresso machine (without the grinder) can cost as little as $100, if you do not mind getting mostly aluminium parts and a pressurized portafilter, which limits the amount of flexibility.
If you are on a budget or you do not like the loud noise the grinder makes (especially in the morning) you can simply purchase a semi automatic espresso machine with a portafilter, which will allow for you to get a pre-ground espresso coffee blend from the store and use it to brew. However, the quality of the final shot of espresso will greatly diminish without the grinder.
Semi-Automatic Espresso Machine: Buying a Grinder
An entry level grinder is about $200, in order to get the type of quality that will allow for a consistently great grind with no static feel. The taste in the ground coffee is really noticeable as the cost of the grinder increases. A grinder of about $600 and above will be delivering very high quality ground coffee. The quality of the grinder is equally (if not more) important than the machine itself, given that the end quality of the espresso is directly dependent on it.
